Feedback from Ypres audiences

May 22nd, 2018 by Julie Hollings

Just a wee note to say how wonderful it was on Saturday to hear the choir sing under the Menin Gate.  We had visited Ypres for the weekend and had planned to hear the last post so imagine how wonderful it was to hear the choir as well.  To top that, I am Scottish and hearing the bagpipes played also added to the experience.  I was moved to tears.  Jointly my partner and I lost many family members in WW1 and it’s so heart-warming to know that they are not forgotten for their sacrifice during that terrible tragic war.

Thanks so much to all the members who were there on Saturday and for the conversations we had with a few.

I was in the crowd watching you yesterday evening, overheard ‘Rhythm of Life’ and had to come over. Superb! ‘Bring him home’ was beautiful and full of emotion’ the soloist singing ‘Love changes everything’ was top class and crikey the last note blew me away! From a lowly alto that sings ‘Rhythm of Life’ and ‘Bring him home’ with the Portsmouth Military Wives Choir Wish we could have seen you at Menin Gate unfortunately we had to head back to Calais. Outstanding singing

Volunteer of the year wanted!

August 25th, 2017 by Julie Hollings

We have been asked to publicise a fantastic campaign (100 Smiles) which simply aims to give Yorkshire’s unsung heroes some well-deserved recognition.

The initiative is being led by Totally Tipi and is completely free – it’s being organised by the kindness and generosity of local businesses.

They need people to nominate those who go above and beyond to put a smile on other people’s faces- the likes of volunteers, charity workers and foster parents.

After a vigorous judging process, the top 100 will be named Yorkshire’s Happy Makers – from there, five exemplary entries will be picked. Those in the 100, along with their family and friends, will be invited to a fantastic night of celebration in October.

‘100 Smiles’ really needs your help to get in front of as many people as possible who could nominate inspirational volunteers. Any emails, social posts or promotion to your network would be greatly appreciated.

You can view the nomination form here:
